Prof. Sergey Sergeevich Kiparisov was born on December 14, 1924, in Saratov, the southeast part of Russia. In 1942 he graduated from high school with honors and was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. After graduating from a tank school in 1943, he took part in the Great Patriotic War. After demobilization, in 1946 he entered the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold. After graduation, he remained to work at the institute, but the Institute was moved to Krasnoyarsk in 1958, and he was transferred to work at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. In 1956 he defended his candidate's dissertation, and in 1968 - his doctoral dissertation. Prof. Kiparisov was a Russian scientist, metallurgist, and chemist who made a key contribution to the development of Soviet and Russian powder metallurgy.
In 1966 he became dean of the faculty of non-ferrous and rare metals and alloys of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, and since 1971 headed the Department of Rare Metals and Powder Metallurgy at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. Since 1976, Professor Kiparisov is associated with the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology M.V. Lomonosov (MITHT), where he was rector from 1976 to 1989. He founded the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Composite and Powder Materials, which he headed until the last days of his life.
The scientific activity of Sergey Kiparisov was associated with the development of the scientific and technological foundations of powder metallurgy, the creation of new materials with special and enhanced properties. He developed methods of obtaining dispersion-hardened alloys of titanium, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, and molybdenum. The results of research carried out under his leadership are reflected in more than 350 publications, including 8 monographs and about 100 copyright certificates for inventions.
Over the years Prof. Kiparisov was a full member of the International Institute for the Science of Sintering, a member of the editorial board of the international scientific journal "Physics of Sintering", a member of the organizing committees of international symposia, schools, and conferences. He trained six(6) doctors and more than 100 candidates of sciences, was the founder and permanent leader of the interuniversity scientific council in the direction of "Powder metallurgy and composite materials". With his direct participation, scientific and educational centers were created in Perm, Minsk, Novocherkassk.
He received a Laureate of the USSR State Prize in 1977.
Sergey Sergeevich Kiparisov died in 1992 in Moscow, Russia.
