Reynen worked in the group of Leo Stuijts in Philips, Eindhoven, on the sintering of spinel-type ferrites. This resulted in a doctoral thesis, which he defended at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 1970. He became quite well known for this research in which he showed the importance of lattice vacancies for the densification of MnZn-ferrites. In fact, this work became known under the name Ready-Reynen theory. In December 1972, Professor Dr. Piet Reynen accepted the call to the prestigious chair of the director the Institute for Mineral Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. In the course of the dawn of modern high-performance ceramics, he was interested in the diffusion processes during the sintering process, the ion line, the ferrite ceramics, the processing of synthetic raw materials, but also the porcelain and glazes.
He became a professor at the RW Technische Hochschule in Aachen but at a certain moment left to France, where he started a firm of his own. Prof Reynen has also been a professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Ceramique in Limoges until his retirement.
